In regards to the uneducated 2.35:1 zealot reviewer, as a Director of Photography, I can set unequivocally that 2001 is supposed to be in 2.20:1 aspect ratio. It was shot in 2.20:1. It was not shot in Cinemascope (or anamorphic Panavision), which is 2.35:1. It was shot with straight lenses in Shapely Panavision 70 (65mm negative, 70mm projection print with soundtrack) . Orderly Panavision 70 is a 2.20:1 aspect ratio format. When you are watching a 70mm print in a theater you are watching 2.20:1, which was never as wide as the anamorphic formats. Learn your aspect ratios.
Not to mention the fact that Kubrick went to the wonderful pains of exposing his special effects composite shots as successive passes on the unique undeveloped 65mm negative (after it being held sometimes in refrigeration for up to a year or more waiting for the next pass) so that all the composite visual elements are first generation on the unique camera negative, rather than the cheaper and more approved optical composite dupe negative inserts. Unbelievable. That is why it looks as marvelous as it does. No optical negative generations.
A Splendid Film…and one of the best executions of the 70mm format ever.
A fair Visual Masterpiece.

I had originally given this collection 5 stars, but then did some investigating. It turns out that although they’ve fixed the aspect ratios on a couple of the films, they are composed execrable on Shame, Persona, and Hour of the Wolf. This effectively chops out about 12% of the films, destroying Bergman’s unusual compositions. I didn’t beget it at first until I went through scene-by-scene and realized the nefarious truth.
After grand confusion, the long-awaited Bergman spot has finally reach out. You can disregard all the negative comments you may have read about faked aspect ratios, etc. Yes, MGM tried to pull a speedy one on a couple of the titles in this box, but after being caught out, they did the fair thing by pulling the box and waiting to reveal an sterling situation with transfers that easily match those of Criterion, Kino, etc. (Let’s hear it for consumer power!) All the titles are now in their favorable aspect ratio. The dim and white transfers (Persona, Hour of the Wolf and Shame) are truly aesthetic. These films have probably not looked this pleasurable since they first came out. The digital transfers for the two colour titles offer equally blooming video and sure unique audio. The disc of bonus materials is attractive, with rare interviews with Bergman himself from 1970 and 2002. The bonus disc and the five individual titles also offer interviews with key Bergman players, including Erland Josephson, Bibi Anderson and the ever-insightful Liv Ullmann.

As for the films, they bellow for themselves. If you detached haven’t seen the four sixties films in this box (the summit of Bergman’s art in the belief of many critics), here’s a chance to win acquainted with some truly expansive late-20th century art. Forget about the dreadful press. MGM got it just this time.

I saw this film on theatrical release in and was very disappointed. Of course, alot of the disappointment initially had to do with the fabulous hype build-up that accompanied the unusual trilogy. Nothing could have lived up to the public’s expectations.

That having been said, The Phantom Menace is disappointing not so worthy because it stinks, but because, I fell, with some additional tweaking, it could have been distinguished great better. Its almost as if Lucas got the station ideas and character concepts developed to a schematic level and then sort of lost interest in them and did not fabricate them any further.
Specific gripes:
Buy,Download, Or Stream Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace! Click Here
1. We never really bond with or understand Qui-Gon’s character or his relationship with young Anakin. He states that he thinks Anakin may be the chosen one, but that is not really sufficient. We need to glance an emotional bond or some kind of identification between the two, but it fair isn’t there.
2. Not to catch on Jake Lloyd (he’s probably a grand kid), but Lucas or whoever unbiased did not gather a marvelous performance out of him. Plus, there is no hint in young Anakin at this point of character traits or flaws that might later foreshadow his descend. Yoda says he sees enrage and terror in Anakin and the Jedi Council effect vague predications that he may eventually be unsafe, but we as audience members fair don’t spy it. We are supposed to infer that Anakin is somehow damaged by his life as as slave and subsequent separation from his mother, but again, we don’t watch any of this. His life as a slave doesn’t seem to present any hardship; his tall scene saying goodbye to his mom is not particularly titillating (mainly due to wooden acting by Lloyd; Pernilla August as his mom does a estimable job idea) . Also, if he’s a slave, how does he have time/resources to acquire robots and pod racers? Honest not very factual to life.
Perhaps if we had seen Anakin and/or his mom subjected to some sort of abuse or exploitation we would have a better indication both of the apprehension and infuriate in Anakin and also a potential emotional reason for why Qui-Gon wants to rescue Anakin. When I reflected on it, I concept it would almost be better if Anakin were like the feral boy in Road Warrior II: an unkempt, unclean, and agressive character that had to be somewhat tamed and civilized by his Jedi rescuers. We don’t ogle any character flaws, any slight hints of selfishness, enrage, fright or frustration. As is, young Anakin is objective an average cute kid; we don’t look any depth to why he wants to speed his life as a slave or hasten off to join the Jedi so we don’t really care.
3. Source of humor: The unique series had a mix of humor based upon the droids 3PO and R2D2 and also with the human characters (primarily interactions between Solo, Leia, and Luke) . In TPM, the important source of humor is generated from droids and Jar Jar Binks with petite or no laughable banter or interaction between human characters. This has two effects: 1) relying on computer-generated characters for humor means the notable obtain of humor becomes physical slapstick, which is one of the main complaints about the Jar Jar charcter; and 2) the interactions between the human main characters, when deprived of humor, makes their relationships seem dry and mechanical, another source of the shallow characterizations.
The one laughable moment that stands out is when, after being ambushed by the Trade Feds at the beginning, Obi-Won says to Qui-Gon with a wry smile: “Well, you were factual about one thing Master….the negotiations were short!” This one moment stands out because it is one of the few jokes between human characters and it works and expresses some of Obi-Won’s personality. It also effectively echoes some of the banter and attitude that made Solo’s character so liekable and crucial to the modern films, an attitude and sensibility that is lacking in TPM. As is, we are stuck with Jar Jar’s pratfalls for yuks, and it unbiased doesn’t work unless you are 5 years veteran.
4. The shallowness of Darth Maul: Similar to other problems with character depth, we don’t know enough about Maul. He says early in the film that at last he will have revenge on the Jedi. Revenge for what? We never know beyond vague notions that the Sith and Jedi are feeble enemies. That is not enough. We either need to be shown more encourage myth on this or have some reason for Maul’s motivation. His fight scenes with the Jedi at the kill are dynamite and clearly the actor is very skilled in martial arts and projects a menacing attitude with only minimal dialog or camouflage time, but we never really know anything about him other than “he is a terrible guy” and that is not enough.
5. Position goofiness. As others have pointed out, all the midi-chlorian business is a red herring of mumbo-jumbo that takes the mystical mystery out of the Force and reduces it to a medical condition. The Jedi are supposed to be wise, mighty seers, but them seem oblivious to the presence and intentions of the unpleasant guys over and over again. Having young Anakin originate C3PO is comic and seems like a forced “cricle closer”. Further, having Anakin inaugurate out on Tatooine doesn’t seem fair and seems liek another circle closer that is forced. Wouldn’t he remember all this years later as Darth Vader in Episode 4? Wouldn’t there be some result of this coincidence? As renowned above, having a slave that doesn’t seem to be deprived or suffering and has the time/resources to do robots and pod racers as a hobby seems goofy too.
Again, it seemed to me like Lucas got the region and characters to a obvious point and then cease on them. With only a puny extra anguish or different emphasis on determined elements, the movie could have been great improved and the audience would have had more insight into the characters and identified with them more. As is, the lack of character development combined with wooden acting makes it hard for the audience to care. The special effects position pieces are spectacular, and the computer generated elements are pioneering and well executed, but without a reason to care about or like the characters, its hard to accept too mad.
Again, not a homely movie, but frustrating because with impartial a few changes or extra peril, it could have been so distinguished better.

George: Wait it can’t be too child-friendly or we’ll loose the fans! Throw Maul into the ring, oooooh he’s scary… hmmmm… we’ll carve his dialogue down to three lines so the action figure can own them all!

George: Oh yeah I’ve also invented these midiclorieans… which they for some unusual reason haven’t heard about in the new episodes… well the knowledge has unbiased been lost in the broad Jedi massacres later on!
*George continues like this for months*
Actually I’m a Star Wars fan… and I like Episode I because of the icy action scenes, spectacular special FX and I actually don’t consider that the acting is so unpleasant, and Jar Jar is radiant comical at times. I objective have this love/hate thing for this episode. This is a decent epic about skiing, partying, and hi-jinks and low-brow humor. Notice for two stars–Dan, played by David Naughton–remember the Dr. Pepper commercials and the TV indicate “Makin’ It’? and Sunny played by Tracy N. Smith who co-starred in Bachelor Party as a friend of the bride. There are so many memorable characters in this movie! ‘Snake Leg’ Banks, Michelle ‘Banana Pants’, Squirrel Murphy, Kendo, Rudi, etc. Lots of fun. Shannon Tweed is in this, too. She was a Playboy Playmate of the Year. Gaze for the Chinese Downhill, Squirrel’s reaction in the hi-speed chair select, and the fraction when Dan lets everyone know he got ‘hurt’ by hitting a tree. Genuine skiing shots, too. Need a DVD of this!
Hot Dog The Movie is one of the best films of all time! I watched this movie all through high school and can remember watching all of the classic ski sequences at 5:00 AM while waiting for my friends to acquire me up to go skiing. As is legal with many others, this movie has become a ritual to procure me ready for the ski season. Who else plan Bannana Pants was hot? Who thinks Sunny’s thighs were too large? Excel Saga has been described by some as the “Family Guy of Anime.” While this covers the fact that it’s definitely wacky and random, this is a awful framing for a series as novel as this. Determined, the humor comes at you from multiple directions at once, is often “noxious” and is at times non-sensicle, but the comparison is a stretch.

You can gain titanic reviews of the series itself on the page for the “Snide Collection,” the previous box space release. What I mainly want to address here is that this thin-pack collection may not be the best arrangement for first-timers to experience this series. Any time a series is brought over from Japan and translated for us westerners, many things obtain lost in translation. In the case of Excel Saga, many of the jokes and references topple victim to the dreaded “Lost-In-Translation” syndrome. ADV was able to wait on us with that predicament by including the “ADV Notes” feature on previous releases of the series, which explained many of the jokes and references that often are lost on non-japanese audiences. That feature is conspicuously absent from this thin-pack release. While not an indispensable feature, it’s extremely profitable for first-time viewers and those of us not nearly as immersed in the otaku lifestyle as some. Veterans, feel free to achieve a few bucks, but newcomers would be better off with the “Unpleasant Collection.”
Words cannot deliver my gratitude to ADV films for bringing us such a spacious series! This is simply anime at its coolest, funniest, and most insane. Every episode is legendary and you simply must believe them all. The chronicle revolves around an insane girl (“First name, Excel, last name, Excel, or unprejudiced Excel for short”) and her constantly-on-the-verge-of-death partner in crime, the impossibly meek Hyatt, as they contemplate to abet the megolomaniacal (and often bored) Lord Illpilazzo lift over the city. He sees the world as immoral and plans to capture it all over, but taking over the world is as he says, “for imbeciles who can only assume the most general of concepts” so he’s settling for impartial one city for now. So he basically impartial sends his girls on bizarre missions hither and thither to do general mischief. This legend line (or lack thereof) is so hilarious it could carry the sereis unaided, but wait there’s more! Such as Excel’s next-door neighbors who fight loudly amongst each other at all hours over such things as money, food, and porn magazines. They all join a public service job under another insane character who attempts to perform them into a crime-fighting group reminiscent of the Power Rangers. Then there’s Pedro, who is killed in an Excel-related accident in the first episode and now wanders the earth as a ghost and undergoes torture after torture throughout the entire series while we all laugh at his expense. His score phrase: “NOOOOOOO!!!!!!”. And, of course, there’s Nabeshin, the director’s afro-sporting alter-ego “whose sense of self-promotion seeks to straddle the world” as he bursts unannounced into every storyline for no apparent reason other than the fact that he can because he’s the director. In fact, the whole staff is in on the joke and the writers, current manga author, and even the singers of the theme song all procure in on the action. This may all sound insane and confusing as is, but trust me, I’ve barely scratched the surface. Anime satire, parody, and truly disturbing comedy is the name of the game in this reveal which I can only picture as Japan’s retort to shows like “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy”…but on crack, PCP, and acid. No genre is left untouched; American and Japanese pop culture alike are targetted for ridicule. Not to mention the too many movies and animes to list that are singled out and parodied including Power Rangers, Jaws,Fist of the North Star,Aliens and whatever your well-liked anime or movie is, all are brutalized equally. If any of this perks your interest, you really must retract this residence. I can’t imagine any anime fan with a sense of humor and a cynical outlook on life not enjoying this series. The episodes can be (nay, MUST BE) watched again and again, in Japanese and English, and you will unruffled come by some unusual joke every time you witness them. In fact, to salvage every single joke and reference you’ll almost certainly have to go through some scenes frame-by-frame (it’s a labor of adore) . Alright, I’ll let you go now so you can occupy the damn boxed spot already!

I had originally seen this in Japenese, then some bootleg dubbed version, thoroughly enjoyed it, so I decided to lift up the DVD. The movie is kindly, but the English dubbing in this DVD definitly left a bit to be desired. The waitress at the beginning had a very heavy southern accent (wich is aesthetic in Georgia or Alabama, but not when you are supposed to be Japenese) and it also had alot of unnecessary prophanity dubbed into it. And a character who was neutral to an extreem, Mephisto, sounded like he borrowed his accent from other Anime, specifically Vampire flicks. Alot of F**K for no reason at all, it seemed that it was conventional to acquire in gaps in the translation.
Now unpleasant dubbing aside, it was a well done and very piquant movie. The classic obedient vs evil/ avenging a lifeless relative adventure movie. IT was a fun movie with alot of action, and it definitly belonged in with other classics like Bio Hunter and Execrable City, albeit this is tame in comparison to either of those. It made the action very delectable without having to have carnage/nudity in every other sceen, not that it offends me when it does, but its nice to watch action earn its point without it sometimes. Generous developed, SHORT, anecdote. Rapidly paced, lots of action, with an ending that left the movie done and resolved. This would have been 4 stars if the dubbing had been better.

Demon city is a mixed bag of anime. The fable centres on the life of a young kempo swordsman who must go to the forbidden city to avenge his fathers death. Aside from this typical storyline the anime features some exellent hiss casting and memorable people such as the angel Mephisto. It has it’s downside though. The main critisism is that the legend might not appeal because it lacks the depth and scope of more established mangas.Anyone enthusiastic in this type of anime should perceive the satisfactory Ghastly city.Although this is unruffled a worthwhile rob for anyone who likes dismay anime.

“Shrek The Third” might lack the originality of the fresh film, but it’s serene a very respectable movie. Shrek is once again effect into an dismal residence, except this time around he isn’t trying to net Fiona’s heart or brand her parents. This time he’s been chosen to replace his father-in-law as the king of Far Far Away. He rapid finds out that there is one other potential heir to the throne called Arthur. Once he figures out where Arthur is located, Shrek, Donkey, and Puss area out to accumulate the boy and convince him that he should be king. Before leaving, however, Shrek is weighed down with more pressure when he finds out that he’ll soon be a dad. While Shrek’s away, Charming gathers up all of fairytale-dom’s meanest villains (including Captain Hook and the Tainted Witch from “Snow White”) and stages a successful coup to become ruler of Far Far Away. Using Fiona and her friends as bait, Charming awaits Shrek’s return in order to do him off and become the rightful king.

I contemplate the reason that many people despise this film so great is that the spotlight shines considerably less on Shrek, Donkey, and Puss than it did it the previous films. Fiona, Snow White, Cinderella, Beauty (of “Beauty and the Beast”), Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty all rep a decent amount of camera time. Lesser sidekicks like Pinocchio and Gingey also prefer the camera off of Shrek. Even Charming gets large screentime along with his fellow villains. Does this execute the film any better or worse than the others? Not in my understanding. In fact, the princesses add quite a bit of humor to the film (not to mention a sweet action sequence spot to a mask of Heart’s “Barracuda”) . Charming and his companions also offer some fun moments. The addition of two other characters, Arthur and Merlin, also give the viewer more to laugh at.
I’ll agree with others who stated that the fart jokes and other sophomoric humor can be excessive, but no more than in the other films. In fact, jokes like that got the children laughing more than in the other two films which, in my conception, had more humor for the adults than this sequel.

All of the current content talents get it attend for the film, and a few unusual voices are added as well. These include Justin Timberlake, Eric Lazy, and a few traditional SNLers. It’s nice to stare that SNL’s castmates stick so end together.
Overall, this film is better satisfactory for the youngsters when compared to the other films. However, that doesn’t mean that the adults in the audience miss out on any of the fun. This will be a certain win when it rolls out on DVD. I recommend it as a consume.
Shrek The Third is a satisfactory movie with fantastic animation. I marvel at that animation! However, the set is impartial average and it didn’t really possess my attention the intention I hoped it would. I believe after this Dreamworks needs to recede on to recent build current characters in original films; but only time will advise if Dreamworks wants to milk this theme yet again. The voiceovers are very well done and the DVD has a plethora of extras.
When the action begins, Shrek (Mike Myers) and his wife Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) are filling in for the ailing King Harold (John Cleese) . Unfortunately, King Harold passes away and, with his dying wish, names Shrek as the rightful heir to the throne. This doesn’t sit too well with Shrek who has been suffering from public relations embarrassment to public relations embarrassment as he launches ships with such strength that the ship blows a hole and sinks–and more. King Harold says, fair before he dies, that the only other heir to the throne would be a young man at school named Arthur (Justin Timberlake) . Immediately after the funeral for King Harold, Shrek, Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss-in-boots (Antonio Banderas) situation flee to catch Arthur at school. Things go downhill even more when Artie (as Arthur is called) is ambivalent at best to become a king; and it’s up to Shrek and his buddies to convince Arthur to become king.
Of course, things encourage in Far, Far Away Land aren’t remarkable better. Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) and his cronies buy over the kingdom and imprison Fiona and her friends including Fiona’s mother. Things explore glowing bleak.
Of course, the position can go anywhere from here. (Yes, I know, you’ve read the spoilers by now but I won’t give them away anyway.) Will Fiona and the other women be able to demolish free and fight the snide Prince Charming? How does Shrek react when he finds out he’s becoming a father? What happens to Puss-in-boots and Donkey when an veteran wizard accidentally casts a spell on them so that they are trapped in each other’s bodies? Survey the movie and salvage out!
The DVD extras are very extensive. The commentary is great; and I like the bonus feature that includes a man going through a storyboard of a deleted scene at the school where Arthur is standing on line to accumulate his lunch. There are comical “suggestions” from Donkey, Shrek and other characters as to how to deal with the problems of parenthood; and there are web links as well.
Overall, this is a capable difficulty and a movie to study when a better one is unavailable. However, Shrek fans will treasure this movie. This is best great for families with kids that are at least 8 or 9 years feeble because of some rude humor that you wouldn’t want younger kids to experience.

During a ritual of some kind Sakura accidentally loses the shards to her heart that are now scattered through time. So her semi-boyfriend Syaoran must recede through time & situation to recover them.
This sends the duo on many battles through time, which kinda reminds me of Dragon Ball Z in that they are trying to retrieve something. This is a really large series and unfortunately only lasted about two seasons. I consider this box status is heavily over-priced but definitely worth picking up when it’s on sale.
Here’s another sci-fi/fantasy anime that is both greatly challenging and titillating. The series short story-plot is that a young princess by the name of Sakura is magically attacked by a mysterious villain who wants her modern powers and as a cause of the attack her memories which or physically feather like are scattered across different dimensions, and so her lifelong friend and romantic interest a young man named Syaoran vows to retrieve her memories and with that establish her life since if she doesn’t get all her memories. So Syaoran meets with a witch who agrees to aid him reclaim the princesses memories but the cost of her abet is that the bond between Syaoran and Sakura will be broken meaning after Sakura regains all her memories she will have no memory of Syaoran and her feelings she had for him before. Along the quest through different dimensions you have two other characters both with their possess reasons and agendas of why they are on this quest, one is Kurogane a big but arrogant warrior who is banished by the very princess he protected because of his pride and than you have Fay D. Flourite another mysterious wizard who’s running from some jam or other. The animation is very distinct and though-provoking and if you’ve seen the animes Noir or Hack/Sign you’ll search for the animation is for the most piece similar, also the audio bid cast both Japanese/English did tremendous for this series and the music track was astonishing since it was the same person who did the music for Noir, Madlax, and Hack/Sign. The only spot I have again is with the box spot, The spot is a two thinpack dvd cases which fill two dvds each and attach into a paper sleeve I wish that Funimation would at least invent the dvd case sleeve out of cardboard or earn it a petite tougher so it won’t lumber so easily. The extras are radiant decent you secure the usual trailers, commentaries, cast auditions, and the textless intro/ending songs. So if you like your sci-fi animes or magical action animes here’s a immense selection for your library…

This movie fits the mold of a romantic comedy perfectly. Stiller does well and has some hilarious moments. Jennifer Anniston supports his purpose and does well on her bear, also.

For me, the standout role was played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman. From the equivocal sex and relationship advice he gives to Stiller’s character – to his commentary on the basketball court (screaming out “Let It Rain”, “Iceman” and “Raindrops” while his gut comes flying out of his shirt, for example), he is hilarious. Hoffman also gets to swear the most memorable line of the movie when he tells Stiller’s character that he impartial sharted and that it is indeed time to leave the party.
I recommend this movie if you’re a fan of most Ben Stiller movies. It’s a movie that will remind you of a dozen other romantic comedies, but it is worth the viewing.
If one is a fan of Ben Siller and one enjoyed him in the films, “Zoolander”, “Meet the Parents” and “Something About Mary”, then one will indulge in this light, fun filled comedy that does not select itself too seriously. It revolves around insurance risk-assessment analyst, Reuben Feffer (Ben Siller), who marries the woman of his dreams, Lisa Kramer (Debra Messing), only to lose her on their honeymoon, when she betrays him with the very buff Claude (Hank Azaria), the scuba diving instructor with a seriously deranged French accent.
Returning home from the honeymoon, alone and forlorn, he runs into an customary childhood friend of his, Polly Prince (Jennifer Aniston), who has gone from being a math geek to being a totally free spirit. They commence dating, even though they appear to be total opposites. Let the games originate! There are a lot of jokes in the film, often scatological, and perceive gags. The path of suitable savor certainly does not seem to urge smoothly when one is plagued with touchy bowel syndrome and one’s girl-friend is fond of hot, inspiring food.

Ben Siller is amusing in a hapless, hang dog sort of plan. Phillip Seymour Hoffman, as his best friend, Sandy Lyle, also adds to the humor, lowbrow though it be. Hank Azaria is very buff and over the top in the role of the sexy, scuba diving Frenchman, Claude, with the comical accent. Jennifer Aniston is a terrific in the role of Polly, a total natural, playing it straight and always charming. The rest of the stellar supporting cast, Alec Baldwin, Debra Messing, Bryan Brown, Michelle Lee, and Bob Dishy, all contribute to the success of this comedic anguish by writer-director Jerry Hamburg.
